Councillor Gela is committed to achieving the aspirations for his community and the whole Torres Strait region.
Cr. Gela previously served as the Councillor for Erub from 2012-2016 and successfully returned to this position following the by-election in December 2020. His previous experience with Council is well paired with expertise gained from his position as the Chair of the Erubam Le Traditional Land and Sea Owners (Torres Strait Islanders) Corporation RNTBC and as the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) representative for Erub.
Cr. Gela’s aspires to “make the community better for the people. It is best if the people and leaders work together to achieve our goals.” He is passionate about developing the future leaders of the region and advocates for young people to “be involved; to learn about Council so they will be able to step up and become the future leaders of our region.”
Cr Gela’s hobbies include fishing and reading fiction books.
Cr. Gela will be joining the Economic Growth Committee.
