Local Laws

Keeping our communities safe

Overview

Council has the power to make local laws to ensure community health, safety, and proper use of community facilities. These laws cover areas like animal management, noise control, health hazards, and permit requirements for events and businesses.

Local Law Permits

Local law permits are required for activities such as holding a public event, operating a business, animal management (including dog registration), burial, disposal or disturbance of human remains buried outside a cemetery, disturbance of human remains in a local government cemetery, waste disposal of goods or materials on Council controlled areas, camping and undertaking scientific research in a trust area.

Apply for a permit

An application must be made at least 10 business days before the activity is intended to commence. You can apply for a Local Law permit by completing an application form (PDF - 130 KB) or visiting your local divisional office.

Temporary food license application

If the activity includes selling food, you will need to complete a temporary food license application.
