Our elected Councillor represents each of the 15 communities that make up the Torres Strait Island Regional Council

Councillor Overview

We service fifteen separate communities spread out across 42,000 square kilometres of water, each with its own unique characteristics and service requirements. Each community is a Division of Council, and each Division is represented by a Councillor.

Role of Councillors

A Councillor is an elected representative who serves on the Torres Strait Island Regional Council. Their primary role is to represent the interests and needs of their constituents within the community.

Decision making

Councillors participate in decision-making processes, debate policies, and contribute to the formulation of local regulations and budgets

Address local issues

They work to address local issues, such as public services, infrastructure, and community development, and often act as a liaison between the public and the local government.

Advocacy

Councillors advocate for their community's needs and work on resolving individual concerns or complaints from residents.
