Right to Information and Privacy

We are committed to providing the community with open and transparent access to information about its services and activities

Overview

The Right to Information Act 2009 provides access to government information unless, on balance, it is contrary to the public interest to provide that information. The Act is complemented by the Information Privacy Act 2009 which establishes a right to access and to amend personal information.

Right to Information

The RTI Act covers documents of a non-personal nature that cannot be accessed from another source, for example Council Webpage.

To make a RTI application

  • Submit your application using RTI IP Access application form
  • Pay the RTI application fee
  • Provide contact details, an address for documentation and notices to be sent to and any relevant proof of identification
  • Provide a specific description of the information you require
  • Send your completed form to our Chief Executive Officer.

Disclosure Log

RTI commenced on 1 July 2009. Documents released to applicants under the Act will be progressively published via Council’s Disclosure Log.

The Disclosure Log (PDF - 79 KB) lists details of the requests made and the information provided in response to those requests, but does not include identifying details of the applicants.

  • the application number as a reference
  • your email or postal address

Information Privacy

The Information Privacy Act sets out the ways in which Council and Queensland government agencies manage your personal information. You can access your personal information and advise us about any changes or amendments to your personal information.

To make an IP application

  • Submit your application using RTI IP Access application form (No fees apply)
  • Provide proof of your identify within 10 business days of lodging your application
  • Send your completed form to our Chief Executive Officer

Application Process

From the date we receive your application, Council has 25 business days to provide you with a decision.

There are some factors that can change this time limit (see section 69 of the Right to Information Act 2009 (QLD)).

If you’re affected by a decision under the RTI Act or the IP Act, you may apply for internal or external review of the decision in certain circumstances.
