Who We Are
We are Australia's most northernly municipality, representing 15 unique island communities, spread across 42,000km2 of sea, and an international border with Papua New Guinea. Established in 2008, we are the largest of the three councils representing the outer islands and manage the treaty agreement between the border of mainland Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Mission
Our mission - "to improve our Communities" liveability in all we do
Vision
Our vision - "for our Communities" and Council to be autonomous, prosperous and sustainable
Values
Our values are representative of the five-pointed star in both our flag and logo - which signifies our five island clusters, and also recognises our sea-fearing navigation. Just like the stars have been used for thousands of years, our values also guide us throughout our work with Council. Our values are – respect, courage, accountability, resilience and one.
