Cr. Kabay Tamu proudly represents Division 10, Warraber Island, as an elected Councillor for the Torres Strait Island Regional Council (TSIRC). Currently in his second term, he stands out not only as the youngest member of his council but also as a prominent advocate for his community’s rights and cultural heritage.
Hailing from the Kulkalgal Nation, Kabay is deeply rooted in the rich traditions and history of the vibrant Warraber Island. His passions encompass culture, youth empowerment, and climate change, reflecting his commitment to both his community and the future of the Torres Strait Islands. Notably, he played a crucial role as a member of the Torres Strait 8, a group that successfully brought a landmark case against the Australian Government at the United Nations for inaction on climate change and violations of human rights.
