Funeral Travel Assistance Grant

The Funeral Travel Grant Program helps individuals cover costs linked to funeral travel within the TSIRC local government area. To be considered, the funeral must take place in a community other than the applicant’s. A maximum grant of $5,000 per funeral, per community, is available. 

Eligibility criteria

• The funeral follows cultural protocols 
• The applicant must be a current TSIRC’s local government area resident 
• The funeral must take place within TSIRC’s local government area 
• The deceased had a strong and enduring connection to communities within TSIRC’s local government area and the Torres Strait Region 
• If the funeral is taking place outside of TSIRC’s local government area, Council can support travel from Division to Horn Island only 

Only applications that meet the eligibility criteria will be considered. 

How to apply

1. Check your eligibility 
2. Download and fill out the application form 
3. Submit the application form via email to Community.Grants@tsirc.qld.gov.au  

Allow a minimum of 3 business days for the Council Officer to review the application and obtain approvals.
