A New Commitee for Financial Sustainability

In July 2025, the Torres Strait Island Regional Council (TSIRC) held the first meeting of its newly formed Sustainability and Organisational Improvement Committee (SOIC).
This committee has been created to strengthen the financial sustainability of TSIRC while also driving continuous improvement and innovation across the organisation.
The SOIC will provide a structured forum where new ideas and initiatives can be captured, carefully assessed and prioritised for implementation. It will also play an important role in monitoring the progress of agreed initiatives, ensuring that they deliver real value and positive outcomes for both the organisation and the communities it serves. By doing so, the committee aims to embed a culture that promotes financial responsibility, innovation, and ongoing improvement in how Council operates.
The establishment of the SOIC reflects Council’s commitment to financial sustainability and its dedication to fostering innovation and continuous improvement across the organisation.
