Badu Rising Main Completed: A Major Step Forward in Water Safety

After more than 4 years under a boil water notice, we celebrated the completion of the Badu rising main in March. This marks a major infrastructure milestone for the community of Badu Island. This critical upgrade allows fully chlorinated water to be pumped from the water treatment plant to the reservoir, bringing the system in line with Australian drinking water safety standards.

While this is a significant step forward, it’s important to note that the boil water alert remains in place for now. Tests are currently being conducted to ensure water quality standards are consistently maintained. Once the results confirm compliance, the alert can be lifted – hopefully soon.

The success of this project is due to the hard work and dedication of engineering and operational teams, who have worked tirelessly to ensure chlorine dosing levels remain stable and effective. Their efforts have laid the groundwork for a safer and more reliable water supply.

Continued investment in regional infrastructure remains essential to support community health and wellbeing. The Badu rising main is more than a pipeline, it’s a foundation for long-term improvements in living standards and resilience.

While we acknowledge this as an important step, we also recognise there’s more work to be done. Progress is flowing, and we remain focused on ensuring the community can confidently drink straight from the tap.
