More than 564 million litres of water saved through leak detection
A leak detection project has identified 94 network leaks that were losing 583 litres a minute across TSIRC communities.
TSIRC commissioned Aqua Analytics to lead a team to find and fix leaks across 12 communities. Callum Livingstone from Aqua Analytics led the project team, which included four TSIRC staff.
‘These leaks represent an estimated water loss of more than 564 million leaks a year,’ Mr Livingstone said.
‘It highlights the importance of a proactive leak detection and repair program to maintain reliable water supplies in the region.’
Emma Evans, Manager, Water and Environment for TSIRC said the team worked tirelessly to repair as many leaks as possible.
‘Local water staff will address the remaining network leaks and Building Services will repair the residential leaks,’ she said.
Council acknowledges that every litre of water saved helps strengthen the security of our communities. This reduces pressure on infrastructure and makes sure we can have a more sustainable water supply for future generations.
Through continued cooperation among council staff, contractors, and residents, we can reduce water loss. It also saves money and improves the reliability of water services throughout the region.
