TSIRC Budget Highlights 2025-26

The Torres Strait Island Regional Council (TSIRC) is prioritising roads, restoration works for coastal erosion, and housing and childcare facility upgrades in its 2025-26 budget.

TSIRC’s operational expenditure for the year is $79.5 million, while forecast revenue is $76.9 million.

Mayor Mosby was proud to present the Budget at this week’s Council meeting on Mabuiag. “Our $59.6 million capital works program will include fixing our roads and sea walls, repairing housing, replacing jetties, and addressing coastal erosion,” said Mayor Mosby.

“We’ll also spend over $12 million on housing repairs and maintenance.”

Mr Mosby also noted that TSIRC is looking at developing strategies to attract future funding and partnerships.

“Council wants to partner with stakeholders to design and build more appropriate – and sustainable – housing in the Torres Strait,” he said.

“Also, we aim to improve Council’s procurement processes and create an economic development strategy to make our future in the Torres Strait more sustainable.”
