TSRIC _ Junior Rugby League
Junior Rugby League Development Camp

In April, over 100 young athletes gathered on Badu Island for the annual Junior Rugby League Development Camp, hosted by Zenadth Kes Juniors and supported by TSIRC Healthy Lifestyle Officers and TSYRSA funding. This landmark event united participants aged 9-11 from all 15 Torres Strait Island Regional Council (TSIRC) communities for the first time. Over three transformative days, they honed their rugby league skills while fostering connections that transcend borders.

The camp featured intensive training sessions led by experienced coaches, focusing on essential skills like tackling, passing, and game strategy. Beyond sports, participants engaged in fitness and wellbeing workshops, emphasising nutrition and mental resilience, vital tools for any young athlete.

Leadership activities were designed to build confidence and communication skills, helping these young players grow as both athletes and individuals. Cultural sharing sessions reinforced respect and unity among the diverse participants, celebrating the rich heritage of the Torres Strait.

A standout moment was the inspiring speeches from local legends, who shared their journeys in rugby league, motivating the young players to dream big. The camp not only enhanced skills but also laid a strong foundation for future competitions at regional and state levels.

Congratulations to all athletes, sponsors, coaches, and community members on a successful event As we reflect on this milestone event, we are excited to nurture the next generation of players, both on and off the field. Together, we’re building a vibrant future for Rugby League in our communities!
